SAILING FROM CORFU TO PAXOS

Starting from the north of the Ionian islands, we found the Diapontian islands,  Ereikoussa, where is possible to moor in the harbor near the beach, Othonoi with the beaches of bitter-Ammos and the Bay of Calypso, Matraki with its small harbor and the beautiful island of the devil (El Diablo).

The Diapontians are mostly uninhabited, except Ericoussa and Fano where you can enjoy relaxing tavernas and few hotels.

 

Corfu or Kerkyra is placed in front of Albania and is the second largest of the ionian islands, covered with millions of olive trees and numerous beaches and villages.

The most beautiful and suggestive places to go are Agios Stefanos, Kassiopi, Ipsos, Sidari, Kalami, Gouvia.

Historic sites belonged to the Venetian and English domination. You can find the bell tower of the Cathedral of St. Spyridon-patron of the city, the ancient fortress of Corfu town, the Church of Panagia with the monastery of Vlacheraina, the island and the lagoon Pontikonissi called “island of mouse” turned to stone from Poseidon, the Clock Tower, the villa of Sissi with Achilles statue.

About the bays, the most beautiful and evocative are Palaiokastritza, Agni-beach, Aspri Bay Kalamy, Avlaki beach, the bay of Cape Drastis, the channel amour sidari, the Bay of Marathias, Melitsa, the Rovinia beach and marina near Kalura.

 

From Kerkyra our navigation resumes for Paxos and Antipaxos, two pearls, and for the mainland costs of Epirus with the colorful Parga with Valtos beach and Panagia Island, the islands of Sivota and Mourtos, and Igoumenitsa village mostly basic arrival of the ferry boats, and the small port of Plataria.

According to Greek mythology, Poseidon separated Paxos from Corfu with his trident to create a love nest for him and his wife Amphitrite.

In Paxi island there are only three urban centers along the coast, with their postcard views. Gaios is the attractive capital of the island: it was a Venetian harbor, and is possible to see the ruined fortress and the islets of Panagia and Agios Nikolaos.

Longos or also called Loggos is located on the east coast 5 km further north, it is wonderfully quiet, with very good tavernas.

The most beautiful bay or rada of the Ionian is Lakka, frequented by many yachts that moor in its crystalline waters.

Do not miss Eremitis. where you can admire one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world, the beach of Menadendri, Mongonissi and the bay Arkoudaki.

Among the most beautiful beaches around the world but surely of Mediterranean sea, we find the three bays of Voutumi in Antipaxos, also nicknamed “the pools”, for the color of

sand and clear water.
